Yields and pounds

Intake and yield

  • Intake weight (lb): the animal's weight when it's dropped off. Optional.
  • Yield weight (lb): the meat after the animal is broken down. Enter it on the order page and select Save changes.

Each species has a typical yield, the share of the intake weight that usually ends up as meat (set in Catalog). Until the yield is weighed, Gambrel Book estimates it as the intake weight times the typical yield, so per-pound lines have an estimated price. Without an intake weight, those lines wait unpriced.

Per-pound lines

A product priced by the pound takes its pounds from the animal's yield in one of three ways:

  • Pounds: a set weight, such as 10 lb of jerky.
  • Yield %: a share of the yield, such as 50% ground.
  • Neither: the line takes whatever the other lines leave. An animal can have one such line.

Shares divide what the pound lines leave. Typing pounds on a line replaces its share. Pooled lines, shared between animals, are always in pounds.

When the yield is entered, every share line's pounds and price are worked out from it. The order can only be marked Complete or Ready for pickup when the per-pound lines take all of each animal's yield (see Order statuses).
